The Italian conductor and pianist Vanessa Benelli Mosell regularly performs in major concert halls and with prestigious orchestras around the world.

In her development as an artist, she has drawn on the wisdom such mentors as Daniel Harding, Mikko Franck, Cristian Mãcelaru, George Benjamin, Karlheinz Stockhausen and Paavo Järvi.


In 25/26 she appears as a conductor in a tour with the Haydn Orchestra of Bolzano and Trento, concerts with the Göttinger Symphonieorchester in Uelzen and Stadthalle Göttingen, with the Südwestdeutsches Kammerorchester Pforzheim, New Year's Concerts at Paris Salle Gaveau with Orchestre Lamoureux and performances with the Orchestra da Camera Fiorentina, among others.

Recent engagements include her work as Assistant Conductor at the Deutsche National Theater Weimar with the Staatskapelle Weimar in La Traviata, a production of Barbiere di Siviglia in Landestheater Coburg, engagements with the JuniOrchestra of the Accademia di Santa Cecilia in Rome, the Orchestra Sinfonica di Sanremo and in Paris Radio France with the ensemble Le Balcon.
She previously conducted orchestras such as the Klassische Philharmonie Bonn (with Berlin’s Konzerthaus, Hamburg’s Laeiszhalle and Stuttgart’s Liederhalle among the venues), the Lithuanian State Symphony Orchestra, the Recreation Orchester Graz, the Brussels Chamber Orchestra, Milan’s Divertimento Ensemble, the Fuzhou Symphony Orchestra, the Romanian Chamber Orchestra, the Wiener Kammerorchester, the Hof Symphoniker, the Jenaer Philharmonie, the Witold LutosÅ‚awski Chamber Philharmonic and the Cyprus Symphony Orchestra.

Fascinated from an early age by the orchestra and opera, Vanessa Benelli Mosell made her conducting debut in 2018, interpreting music by the 20th century French composer Gérard Grisey and in 2019 she was a Finalist of the European round of the inaugural MAWOMA (Music And Women Maestra), the first worldwide competition for women orchestra conductors.

 

As a pianist she has now ten releases for DECCA CLASSICS turning from Stockhausen and the drama of Italian opera for her album Casta Diva, through Debussy's Two books of Preludes to her latest Chopin solo Album.
2024 saw her embarking a China-tour as a soloist with the Maggio Musicale Fiorentino conducted by the legendary Maestro Zubin Mehta as well as her debut with Orchestra del Teatro alla Scala.
Latest seasons saw her performing with the Orchestre National de France under the baton of Sir George Benjamin, with Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France under Mikko Franck, concerts at the Al Bustan Festival in Beirut and with the Orquesta Sinfónica Simón Bolívar de Venezuela and Diego Matheuz; with the Royal Scottish National Orchestra performing Ravel’s jazz-inflected Concerto in G, concerts at London’s Royal Festival with the London Philharmonic and at Cadogan Hall with the Royal Philharmonic. Most recently she performed with Orchestre National du Capitole de Toulouse, with Orchestre National de Lyon as well as concerts at Festival Présences in Paris, Grame Lyon, Paris Philharmonie and with the Sinfonieorchester Liechtenstein under John Axelrod.
Highlights in her career as a soloist include performances at La Scala in Milan and Turin’s Teatro Regio; solo recitals at the Muziekgebouw in Amsterdam and at the Seoul Arts Center; portrait concerts at the National Concert Hall, Dublin in Ireland for RTÉ, and at Beijing National Centre for the Performing Arts; praised performances at Salle Gaveau and Auditorium de Radio France in Paris, Auditorio Nacional de Madrid, Palau de la Musica Catalana in Barcelona, Glasgow Royal Concert Hall, Edinburgh’s Usher Hall and London's Wigmore Hall.
World-known for her performances of Stockhausen’s Klavierstücke, she was invited by the composer to study under him, as he believed that she “has the power to let people appreciate my music”. Benelli Mosell worked closely with the composer and he remains an important influence on her music making, encouraging her passion for contemporary music. Since becoming a key figure in the music of Stockhausen, Benelli Mosell has had collaborations with many leading contemporary composers including George Benjamin, Olga Neuwirth, Hugues Dufourt, Philippe Scholler, Vittorio Montalti, Claire-Melanie Sinnhuber and Marco Stroppa, being the dedicatee of many of their works as well as making national and international prémières.


Vanessa Benelli Mosell began her comprehensive musical studies at the age of three. At seven years old she entered the International Piano Academy in Imola, giving her orchestral debut as soloist at the age of nine followed by her New York appearance at eleven years old with pianist Pascal Rogé, who described her as “the most natural musical talent I have encountered in my entire life”. In 2007 she continued her studies at the Moscow Tchaikovsky Conservatory under Mikhail Voskresensky, before obtaining a Master's degree from the Royal College of Music in London in 2012, where she studied with Dmitri Alexeev.
Benelli Mosell initially studied conducting with Luca Pfaff in Strasbourg and Mikko Franck in Paris, before continuing her studies in Orchestral Conducting at the Hochschule für Musik “Franz Liszt” Weimar in the class of Prof. Ekhart Wycik and Prof. Gregor Bühl and Choir Conducting with Prof. Jürgen Puschbeck.
She received educational musical training in violin, opera-correpetition, singing, cembalo/bassocontinuo, score reading and composition.
She also holds a Post-Graduate in Contemporary Repertoire Conducting from the Conservatorio della Svizzera Italiana in Lugano studying with Maestro Arturo Tamayo. 
She received further mentorship from Cristian Mãcelaru, Mikko Franck, Daniel Harding, Rüdiger Bohn, Johannes Klumpp, Nicolas Pasquet, Dominik Beykirch, Uroš Lajovic, Neeme Järvi and Paavo Järvi, who selected her for the Järvi Conducting Academy performing at the Pärnu Music Festival. She has been furthermore selected by Peter Eötvös to take part to the Peter Eötvös Contemporary Music Foundation Conducting Academy.
